2021 / 2022 Season Information

We are so excited to begin the 2021 soccer season! For those of you who are new, our Head Coach Josh Nichols:

I am a proud husband to my wife Allison for almost 19 years, and a father of 3 amazing children Seth (16), Sydney (14), Travis (9). I grew up in Pittsburgh for 37 years, lived in Salt Lake City, UT, and Maui, HI before moving to Fort Collins, CO almost 5 years ago. We absolutely love it here, specifically the community and the outdoors, and are excited to call Fort Collins our home for a long time. We feel blessed to have been able to find Heritage Christian Academy and City Park Church and be part of life with the staff and people of this amazing community. I have found myself to be drawn in serving for, and with this community in multiple capacities, including at City Park Church as a deacon, Stephen Minister, volunteering at Serve 6.8, Fort Collins Rescue Mission, as well as being involved in coaching soccer through a variety of clubs (CO Rapids Soccer Club). I am now teaching two psychology courses at HCA this year, as well as helping to develop a behavior / mental health resource for the students and teachers. I look forward to the opportunity to be part of HCA High School Boys Soccer and continue to serve Fort Collins and to serve the Lord.

See our About page for more information about the soccer program!

***The soccer program’s vision, HCA’s core values, and the player’s assessment / reflection will develop our season’s mission statement.

We’d like to share with you what the season will look like, what we need from parents, etc. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Coach Nichols, Joe Taylor, or Kara Taylor. In addition, Coach Nichols would love any feedback on previous experiences with the program and any
ideas on how we can improve the soccer program at Heritage.

Uniform Needs

HCA provides a home (dark) and away (white) jerseys, and black shorts (Please take good care of these uniforms!). However, the player is required to provide their own, dark / forest green soccer socks(home), and white soccer socks (away). These are required by CHSSA, players will not be able
to play in games without them. We have team warm-ups, a black hoodie and black warm-up pants. These are required by the team (most of the team have besides freshmen and new players). If the boys wish to wear a base layer under their jerseys (for colder games), the shirt must either match the
jersey or be black. Our seniors have chosen team backpacks as our team gear this year. Team raised soccer funds will be used to purchase, as well as sponsor training shirts.

Communication

We are using TeamSnap as our main platform of communication, schedule, player availability, etc. All players have been invited and are responsible for updating their parents and/or sharing with them how to become a part of and use this app. We also have a team website that Coach Joe has developed. Both are important resources for acquiring important information.
https://hsbsoccer.heritagechristian.info/

Veo

We are using Veo once again to record our games this season. This is a great tool to use for game analysis, as well as for family members who cannot make the game (you can watch the next day, unfortunately the camera does not provide a live feed). I need all players to make an account, as we
have the ability to tag and track individual players, which will be very helpful in game analysis for individual players. A link was emailed out.

Schedule

All home games and practices will be at Greenbriar Park, 730 E. Willox Lane, Fort Collins. This is our home field. Some important dates to note:

  • Thursday 9/23 – Homecoming Game (Make this game festive: signs, balloons, wear your green, etc.. Typically, StuCo helps plan a tailgating party. More info. to come. Please plan on attending this game and making it special!
  • Tuesday 10/19 – Senior Game (We are starting a new tradition! The Junior families will be in charge of planning the senior celebration each year. This way, the senior families can relax and enjoy their special day. Typically, the underclassman does a gift bag for each senior (favorite snacks, drinks, small gift cards, etc. and a nice card) with a simple potluck after the game. ALL underclassmen will be expected to bring a potluck item.)
  • TBD – End of Season Potluck (Chili dinner/potluck – we will send out a separate sign-up for this event. We will not have a date until we see how the playoffs go. This is also the lettering/awards ceremony and is a very special evening!)
  • TBD – HS Soccer Boys vs. HS Volleyball Girls in a volleyball AND soccer game!

Needs

All needs will be in a sign-up genius to be emailed soon!

We will be doing pre and post-game snacks for ALL games for our players! (ex. sandwich, snack bar, protein bar, fruit, water, gatorade, etc. – keep health & energy (pre) / recovery (post) in mind).

We will also be doing a simple post-game snack and drink for each opposing team. We want to show all of our opponents the love of Christ.

We will send out a sign-up genius (link in the right sidebar on on this website) when the schedule is “finalized.” These will need to be at the school on away game days so they can fuel up on the way to the game. PLEASE LABEL FOR SOCCER!!!

Away games – we will plan on grabbing dinner after a couple away games, but not all of them.

Transportation – you and your student are responsible for getting him to practice and home games. We do take the van and utilize carpools to away games. The van will bring the boys back to the school after away games.

A co-team manager (to help organize events) – please see Kara Taylor if you are interested!

One parent to make locker signs for each player that identifies them as a soccer player and encourages them throughout the season.

One family to be in charge of setting up the school flag and sponsorship banner at home games.

One or two families to create a game day program (only home games; we have a template, just needs updated).

One or two families hand out programs at home games.

We are considering doing concessions at home games as a further way to raise money. We’d need families to take turns selling.

If you take photos throughout the season, please share them (there is a link on the team website).

Fundraising/Sponsorships (See hand-out)

We hope your boys are excited about another fun soccer season. Please keep the coaches and players in your prayers.

Go Eagles!
